In diesem Jahr feiert der Grugapark 50 Jahre Jubiläum. Am 29.4.1965 wurde die Bundesgartenschau im Beisein von Bundespräsident Heinrich Lübke eröffnet. Bis zum offiziellen Ende im Oktober 1965 besuchten über fünf Millionen Menschen die Gartenschau. Bis heute bestehende Wahrzeichen kamen neu in den Park: das Wasserbecken nahe des Haupteingangs mit der im Volksmund "Bleistifte" genannten Wasserfontäne, der Lesepavillon, der Tierhof und die Tummelwiese. Up to the official end in October, 1965 visited more than five million people the horticultural show. Carola Kohler ist Fotografin aus Düsseldorf. Jetzt hat sie einen ganz besonderen Auftrag bekommen: Sie soll von allen Bauarbeitern auf der Großbaustelle Münsterplatz ein Porträtfoto machen. Die Fotos sollen später beim Richtfest auf die große Wand gehängt werden, damit man weiß, wer und wieviele Menschen an dem Riesenbau beteiligt waren.
